Athletics Day Poem

On Monday, it was Athletics Day!
An annual event when we can play,
A time to throw softballs with all your might,
But make sure you're not holding the ball too tight!
In long jump you can dive into the sand.
When you're in the pit, I'll give a hand!
When sprinting you look forward, just a few more metres,
but after a day, you can burn just like heaters!
High jump, the sport that steals all your focus,
I try my very best but sadly I'm hopeless!
And relays are the treat to end the day,
What can I say? I love athletics day!

Journeys...

This term, Room 2 is studying about 'journeys'. We all got together and came out some suggestions to do our inquiry on, basically, we had to choose something that has affected the lives of other people. For example, Sir Edmund Hillary put New Zealand on the globe by getting to the top of Mount Everest. This term is going to be a road that leads us to lots of bumps and surprises, there is a long road ahead of us and I look forward to see how our inquiry turns out!

Cat got your  tongue?
Let's see it eye  to eye.
I'm all ears.
I won't have second  thoughts.
Give it a shot.
Hold your horses,
a little birdie told you
To give someone a cold shoulder?

You birdbrain!
You're in hot water!
Don't count your chickens before they hatch.
I have mixed feelings about you.
You should have cold feet.
Cross your fingers!
Goose is cooked
And stop crying crocodile tears!

I'll Give it a shot
it's a piece of cake
a little bird told me
you're in hot water
so cross your fingers
try not to don't count your chickens before they hatch
you'll cry your crocodile tears
and wolf in sheep's clothing

Just pig out
get cold feet
you birdbrain
you'll see eye to eye
but call it a day
so be in the same boat
but let the cat out of the bag
and it's raining cats and dogs

Process to Product

This term, Room 2 has been learning about the process of making a product for out inquiry, we all had went to the Tip Top Factory and found out the wonders about the our ice cream. After we came back, we started discussing what we were going to do. There are two parts to this inquiry, one part is to think about any product and find out how it's made. The second part of this inquiry is my personal favorite. We are going to have a school market day! We have to make a product ourselves and our product will go to the market day! This is definitely going to love this term because to many good things seem to be planned.
I looking forward to the market day!

Maths Buddy

This term, Miss J introduced us to an amazing website called 'Maths Buddy.' It is a great website because it has so many fabulous features such as a short video explaining how to solve a variety of different questions and it also goes to the New Zealand curriculum so you know where you are at. This website is so cool and you got to check it out.
Click here to go to Maths Buddy:  http://www.mathsbuddy.co.nz/
This website has been helping Room 2's learning a lot!
I would totally recommend this website to everyone, it is helpful and the videos are very clear.

Instruments with Mrs Dowden

On Tuesday, Mrs Dowden came to fill in for Miss J because she was absent. We all made instruments for our Market Day at the end of the term. We had to choose between 3 different instruments. We got to make a den den drum, a maraca and a rainmaker. It was very exciting! Mrs Dowden is also going to come next Monday so we can make more. The best thing about this craft is that it is very easy to make and it is very fun! I very excited for Monday when I get to make another instrument!

Name: Cruella De VilRelated image
This outstanding villain was last seen in Paris at 12:34 am climbing through a window into an apartment looking for 15 Dalmatians to wickedly make into a coat. (She already has 86 innocent puppies). As she strode down the streets of Paris she is followed by two horrible men. One was tall and one was short. They were carrying a bag which had these words on them "Election Company". Cruella de vil wore a heavy cream coat with a half dress, with a night sky coloured belt. She had a skinny tummy for all we know. .The evil grin on her face definitely brings out her jet black and white hair with her chocolate brown eyes. Also you will not see her smile but she will give you an evil grin. The witness said that she was driving a blood red car. As she smokes green air out of her smoking stick she shouldn't be too hard to spot.

Your reward is 600,000,000
Thank you.

Hi, Miss J Could you please publish this one the blog for me? Thanks, Charlotte

The old wooden floorboards creaked beneath my weight. A dim light glowed from a single candle on one side of me. A bright lightning bolt illuminated the sky. I was surrounded by old chests and boxes filled with all sorts of junk (boring jewelry, ancient clothes and hats and a heap of cobwebs). My brother, Sam and I had come to the 'Haunted House' to find a jewelry box for Mum. Whenever we need anything we come to the attic of the 'Haunted House' to find it. The owner died years ago. I jumped at the sound of a thunder clap. Why do I always come on the worst of nights?

We searched through boxes one by one seeing more cobwebs and finally a jewelry box! It was silvery with a mirror on top, on each side of it was a brilliant stone of a shimmering emerald green colour. "Can we go?" Sam asked, nudging me, "This place is creeping me out."
So we moved towards the door but Sam tripped over some box and it moved automatically. Hidden underneath was a long, deep, black hole.

"Lets go!" I said dashing for the door. But it wouldn't open. I pushed and pushed but it didn't budge, Sam started wailing and crying. Making a quick decision I thrusted the jewelry box in his arms, his hand in my hand and the glowing candle in the other and marched determinedly towards the hole. "It's the only way out." I said.

We climbed down the rope ladder listening to the rumbling roar of the storm. A few long minutes later we reached the bottom of the pit but to our dismay, confronted with a maze of twists and turns. So we went left, then right then right again and left, left, right so many times I lost count. Finally we found ourselves in a long, dark corridor lit by orange candles. We heard a loud thump behind us. We started running until we found ourselves in our not-spooky, not- dimly-lit, not -scary backyard.

"What just happened?" I asked

Where am I?

By Charlotte

My ears block as we lift for takeoff, I look out of my window and see people as small as the ant crawling on my window sill. Houses as small as my fingernail. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ goes the lady behind me.  We are nearly home, YAY!

Tip Top Factory

On Wednesday, Room 2 went to the Tip Top Factory to learn about our inquiry, 'process to product.' It was so awesome! First, we met our tour guide, she was very nice to us, she guided us to a small old van from when Tip Top first started! Then, our tour guide lead us to the factory where the magic happens. She explained what everything did and even explained what the workers did. She even told us that there is a mystery ice cream coming soon!
I am very excited for it! But my favorite part was when we got to eat an ice cream. I chose a jelly tip, it was delicious, while we were eating, we watched a short video on how the company began. I loved the trip to the Tip Top Factory.
I really wish I could go there again. I learn't so much about the process and I hope I learn more soon!

Tip Top

Hi everyone, our trip to Tip Top had a rocky start with not having the right bus, we when we got there eventually we had a great time.
Here we are at the end looking smug as we had just eaten an ice cream.
I have other photos which I will down load off my phone and put on next week.
We learnt about homogenization, pasteurization and how to work as a team on a production line. It was great to see ice cream pouring down a tube and into boxes. This ice cream is a 'secret' new flavour. I can't wait until I see it advertised to try. It looked delicious.

Hi everyone, I started a Knitting Club which mainly consists of room 2 students (with some others). Here are some pictures of how we are going. Many of the children have mastered the knit stitch and next term we will start with the purl. The white work is a blanket I am working on for my cousin's baby due in August. Miss J.

Pizza with Mrs Fowler

One Tuesday, Mrs Fowler came to our class to make some delicious pizza. Well, you might be thinking, 'Pizza? Really, how unhealthy!' But actually, it is healthy!
Homemade things taste better! So in May, we got into groups of 3 or 4 and then began our activities. First we had to find 20 seasonal fruits and vegetables that are grown in May like apricot or avocado. Mrs Fowler also recommended the 5 a day website. Then we had to think of what we wanted on our pizza. My group picked potato, peas, pineapple and chives. For cheese, we decided on mozzarella and for meat, we choose none! Even without meat, it will be healthy and delicious.

On the day we made the pizza, everyone brought the equipment to school. Then Mrs Fowler showed us how to make the pizza dough.
We all tried to make it and then we had to gather up all our muscles and knead as hard as we could, luckily the yeast made it rise and soften.
After morning tea, we stared with our pizza. We made the sauce with garlic, onion, tomato and tomato paste, the smell was so good that my mouth was watering!
Our groups eventually started with our pizza! We then baked it for about 10 minutes, the pizzas were our lunch and it was so tasty.

After our delicious lunch, we went to the classroom and wrote down the steps just in case we wanted to make more at home.
I think making pizza was a great experience because I think that it boosted my fabulous cooking skills and I think I will defiantly make more in the future!

Secret Garden Blog

Secret Garden

Every Thursday we spent the whole day with the Amazing Mrs Wallace. We have been reading The Secret Garden and as follow up we made our own secret garden in a shoe box by painting bricks as a background and bringing things from home. We've brought birds, butterflies, pipe cleaners, string, wool, toothpicks and cellophane. Some of us have made paper  trees and vines.
Although we haven't finish quite yet they look amazing! Thank You Mrs Wallace.

pizza with Mrs Fowler

Mrs Fowler made pizza with us. First we had to make the dough. This was fun as we watched it rise and had to punch it down. We rolled it out ready for our toppings. Our toppings were a mix of different things. We put it in the oven. It was the best pizza ever.
Enjoy our photos.

More arts week - wearable arts

In our spare time during arts week we designed a picture on a drawstring bag. After our design had been penciled and coloured by special fabric pens we needed to iron them. This is so if it got wet the pens wouldn’t run. It was fun using an iron for the first time (don’t tell our parents!!)

We were also lucky enough to have some inspiring wearable arts in Room 22. These were amazing to look at. We even had the brainstorm and sketches, to see how people start with an idea and then have the finished product in front of us. We also got to see these costumes being worn by our students at the art week assembly last Friday. Truly fantastic!! Linda was also at the assembly, so we got to see her in person and thank her for lending us the costumes for the week.

Charlotte.
Please enjoy the pictures of the wearable art costumes.
